“A single standard for assessing business sustainability must work for the consumer”

A national standard for assessing the sustainability of businesses in Russia is needed. We are working with the League of Green Brands on a single universal approach that would allow us to determine, using a set of different parameters, how far a company or brand has progressed in implementing green initiatives.

The idea of a national common standard for sustainability assessment is to form a unified approach to assessing different ESG aspects of companies’ activities. It is important to take into account industry specifics: after all, the impact of one company may be more significant in the social sphere and another in the environmental or corporate governance part.

But in the end, creating a single standard should serve one purpose — to work for the consumer, so that he understands what he is voting for and what he is investing in. Therefore, it is very important that such a standard be understandable to the consumer and presented in a form that is accessible to him.
