Despite the rapid change in external conditions due to sanctions, the urgency for Russian regions and businesses to adapt to climate change remains and will continue to grow in the face of multiple and increasing climate hazards. And developing new solutions for a low-carbon economy represents new opportunities for Russian business and growing export markets in developing countries.

Overall, Russia’s proactive position in promoting its own products and technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adaptation is a broad and promising topic for international cooperation with ’friendly’ countries and a promising export market in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and China.

Climate technology must remain outside sanctions, and this is where the normalisation of international cooperation can begin.

The steel industry not only has the potential to reduce its own greenhouse gas emissions, it also offers the necessary solutions to decarbonise other sectors of the economy. "Severstal produces steel products and solutions for building renewable and low-carbon energy facilities. These include, for example, wind turbine towers. "Severstal is the only Russian manufacturer of wind towers with different designs and heights for onshore and offshore installations. All of them meet international standards. Severstal also produces solar power station towers with pivoting trackers that increase the efficiency of solar panels; cryogenic valves and sheets for liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects; and hydrogen (H2) and carbon dioxide (CO2) pipes.

The company takes a responsible approach to reducing its impact on the climate. We study global experience in decarbonising the iron and steel industry, set greenhouse gas reduction targets and implement innovations to reduce them, and work to make the company more resilient and adaptable to the effects of climate change.
