The green finance market is still active. However, interest in these instruments has understandably been limited. Many companies are not making green loans public, as a number of industries and businesses in general are trying to appear less in the public arena and do not disclose details of their plans and projects.
Nevertheless, financial institutions and regulators are shaping the agenda through portfolio management.
One of the trends in green finance in Russia we would highlight the interest in climate issues — financial institutions are planning to undertake more qualitative assessments of climate impacts on portfolio lending in the future. This will create a new type of borrower scoring — companies will be viewed through the lens of climate risk exposure, among other things.
Green finance is also a key focus for the Central Bank.
