Greenhouse gas emissions are one of the key issues on the global climate agenda. A balanced view of the problem broadens the range of actions that can be taken to tackle it.

I am not talking about the development of one or more technologies, whether it is renewable energy, hydrogen or carbon capture. I am talking about a set of actions to reduce emissions, which are available to us now.

If we see emission reduction not as an additional regulatory or financial burden, but as a benchmark of scientific and technological progress, then every industry and every enterprise has a lot of opportunity to reduce costs and improve profitability.

Improvements in energy efficiency have enormous economic potential and can be worthwhile on their own, even without additional incentives from regulators.

For example, waste management is promising as a measure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, where improvements improve environmental quality and ensure a favourable sanitary and epidemiological environment.
