In 2018, the national Ecology project was launched, for which certain targets were set. Rostec is responsible for the management of first- and second-class hazardous waste. The corporation has set up a project office that creates the infrastructure for managing radioactive waste, acids and alkalis.

The logistics for this project were developed from scratch. Each waste hauler is equipped with a sensor that can be used to track its movements along the route. The corporation is also building waste treatment plants where hazardous waste will be stored and recycled.

The rest of the waste, including municipal waste, is handled by the REO (Russian Ecological Operator). The work is in progress. The development of a comprehensive waste collection and recycling system requires a lot of investment and its extension to other waste classes will take a long time.
