Many eco-programmes in Russia were financed by foreign corporations. All had sustainable development programmes and commissioned services from environmental organisations. Now many Russian eco-organisations are in decline: foreign business clients have abandoned their services and sponsorship of eco-projects.
Nevertheless Greenpeace and WWF Russia continue to work in Russia and are following the agenda.
I should note that Russian environmental organisations have been merging for the last 10 years. Russia has already grown a powerful environmental movement with its own specifics. According to my observations, since 2018, quite a few organisations have emerged that are capable of solving environmental issues on their own, without outside help.
