“It’s not warming that’s dangerous for architecture, it’s abrupt climate change”

In my opinion, the global challenge today is not warming per se, but abrupt climate change. There are buildings that were built just 50 years ago that are no longer able to adapt to the dramatic changes in climate.

The designers of the building assume that it will stand until it is demolished. But its lifespan is considerably shortened by new climate phenomena that were not present in the area at the time it was designed and built.

Sustainable architecture must therefore be replaced by adaptive (resilient) architecture. It involves designers thinking about solutions that will allow the building to withstand the effects of natural phenomena.

For example, when designing a house by a river, the possible rise in water levels must be taken into account so that the building does not flood and have to be demolished.
