Solid waste fuels are now called SRF and before the introduction of the GOST standard they were called RDF. Both abbreviations are still used today, but the difference is that SRF fuel meets the GOST standard and RDF does not.

This fuel can never be a viable substitute for hydrocarbon fuel for several reasons. The first is its production: we cannot produce enough SRF to cover all the energy needs of the population. The second is the availability of fossil fuels — coal and gas in Russia. The third is the lack of motivation to produce alternative fuels widely. Industry does not suffer from a shortage of fossil fuels, but the motivation to use alternative fuels is not great enough.
