The Russian automotive industry will be transferred to the environmental standard “Euro-6”

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation is working on draft amendments to the technical regulation “On the safety of wheeled vehicles”, which provide for the production of vehicles in the country according to the Euro-6 environmental standard. This is reported by the agency “AUTOSTAT”.

According to media reports, the transition to Euro-6 is planned to be implemented in 2025–2028.

As part of the project, the agency also intends to prepare an analysis of legal practice on setting requirements for the production of electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel vehicles.

According to Igor Korovkin, executive director of the Association of Russian Automakers, the production of fuel auto components can be launched in Russia, and import of these products from China, Iran and Egypt is also possible.

Since January 1, 2016, the Euro-5 environmental standard was in force in Russia, but in the spring of 2022 its actions were suspended due to the current situation in the economy and foreign policy. Currently, in the Russian Federation it is allowed to produce vehicles of lower environmental classes.

Motor transport consumes oil products, which were considered the most optimal for the car, but not for the environment. Over time, alkali, oil products get into the water, which becomes undrinkable, and living creatures die out in rivers and other water bodies. The idea to use other resources for fuel, to save the environment from pollution by oil and other no less dangerous substances is becoming more and more realistic. In fact, the introduction of a new environmental standard is a stepping stone towards the use of the most environmentally friendly vehicles running on green fuel (electricity) or biofuels.

This goal is becoming more and more popular all over the world. In May 2021, the countries of Europe adopted the Vienna Declaration aimed at stimulating the transition to green, safe, healthy and inclusive modes of transport. Moreover, special attention in this document is paid to the promotion of cycling in the pan-European region. In Russia, cycling is less common due to the country’s climatic features: long cold winters, as well as long distances. Although in large cities (Moscow, St. Petersburg, etc.) the propaganda of cycling is successfully operating: special bike paths are being laid here, bicycle rental stations are being installed during the warm seasons of the year. Recently, such a type of ecological transport as an electric scooter has become very common. Every year more and more people use these modes of transport for both walking and commuting without wasting time in traffic jams.

So, the introduction of new environmental standards for motor vehicles, and the promotion of cycling and other types of green transport carry the same global goal: clean the air from harmful emissions and preserve the ecology of cities and the entire planet.
