The first playgrounds in Russia will appear in Sochi, saving from the sea wind and the southern sun

The first playgrounds designed for the subtropical climate will be built in Russia. They protect from the sea wind, high temperatures and the scorching sun, Izvestia reports with reference to the authors of the project.

The first such facility will appear in Sochi in 2023. According to the creators of the initiative, the site will be surrounded by hills and wind-resistant plants, equipped with awnings, awnings and fountains.

A system of hills up to three meters high will cover the playing area from gusty winds. They can also be used as slides and mini-climbing walls. On the hills, a panoramic walking area with transparent glazing will be equipped.

The layout of the playground provides for several routes, including both locations for playing with children and secluded corners for rest and work. During the construction of the complex, environmentally friendly materials are used, designed for high temperatures.

Next to the children’s spaces, they plan to plant flower beds and shrubs, as well as wind-resistant subtropical plants, creating palm thickets, a bamboo forest, orange and olive groves. It also provides for the creation of a city garden, where children can grow vegetables and watch the growth of herbs.

The children’s play area (with a total area of 2,000 square meters) will be divided by age — these are spaces with a large sandbox and trampolines for toddlers, play areas for children of primary school age and teenagers. There will also be a pavilion for active games and master classes, which will function all year round.

The project plans to build 11 swimming pools, including two children’s pools with sea water and 1 large pool with an island in the middle, with slides and fountains, artificial currents and waterfalls. And in every large pool there will be areas for kids.

The commercial director of the project, Elena Kabesheva, said that investments in the project amounted to 1.3 billion rubles.

The new children’s space will be located on the territory of the elite complex MANTERA Seaview residence. The development is being carried out by the first resort real estate developer FIVE in cooperation with the Megabudka bureau (in partnership with AA Partners).

Ekaterina Maksimova, lead architect of the Megabudka landscaping project, noted: "Basically, playgrounds in Russia are designed for a temperate climate, while subtropical zones have their own characteristics: a hot climate, active sun combined with gusty winds from the sea and a quick change in the time of day. All these factors have influenced the landscape of the new children’s space, in which we use functional hills, wind-resistant subtropical plants, canopies, awnings and fountains, a large number of interesting lighting solutions.
