Moscow has begun accepting applications for environmental prizes from the Moscow City Government

The competition is held in two areas: in the field of environmental protection and for the best project for the integrated improvement of natural and planted areas of the city. The total prize fund is 1.7 million roubles.

The main idea of the competitions is state stimulation and support of positive public initiatives in the field of ecology and climate, development and strengthening of environmental values among residents of the capital. Competitions for environmental awards have been held annually by the Moscow City Government for more than 10 years, and the number of applicants grows every year.

The landscaping competition has been held since 2011 and includes six prizes:

  • 3 prizes of 100 thousand roubles each — for project organisations;
  • 3 prizes of 70 thousand roubles each — for representatives of educational institutions (teachers, students).

Laureates of the competition will receive winner’s diplomas, and all participants are guaranteed commemorative certificates.

The environmental competition has been held since 2003 in four categories:

  • “Best implemented project using environmentally friendly and energy-saving technologies”;
  • “The best environmental education and environmental awareness project”;
  • “Best journalistic materials, TV and radio programmes on the ecology of Moscow”;
  • The best achievements in the field of environmental protection by representatives of public environmental associations.

There are two prizes in each category:

  • 1st place — 200,000 roubles;
  • 2nd place — 100,000 roubles.

In addition to the cash prize, each winner will receive a bronze statuette with the contest symbol, a badge and a certificate signed by the Mayor of Moscow.

A professional jury — leading experts in the field of architecture, ecology and landscaping — will review and evaluate the projects submitted for the competition.

Jury members will pay attention to the ecological validity of project solutions and consideration of natural features of the territory when selecting the species composition of planted plants, innovation and relevance of projects, ecological effect obtained in the course of their implementation.

Representatives of the Moscow businesses, major corporations and industrial enterprises, environmental organizations, local NGO activists and urban communities, mass media, educational institutions and design organizations are invited to participate in the competitions.

Over the years of the competitions, the jury has considered over 1,000 interesting and promising environmental projects, including projects by Gazpromneft-MNPZ, Russian Railways, Moskva-24 TV channel, ECA interregional public organisation, students and teachers of Moscow universities (RUDN, MARKhI, Timiryazev Academy), and many others.

The ecosystem of ‘green’ projects in Moscow is expanding. Participation in the competition is not just an opportunity to try your hand and win a cash prize, but also an excellent environmental networking opportunity, a step towards large-scale implementation of your project to improve the ecology of the capital.

The competition is open for two months, until 7 November 2022. You can read the detailed conditions of the competitions, the projects of previous years’ winners, and apply for participation at ecopremia.moscow.
