An indoor complex for reforestation appeared in Buryatia near the coast of Lake Baikal

A greenhouse complex for growing pines was built in Buryatia. Covered premises were erected at the site of the Kikinsky forestry enterprise in the village of Gremyachinsk near the shores of Lake Baikal, TASS reports.

One of the five greenhouses has already been put into operation and 250,000 pine seedlings have been planted there. In the spring of next year, more than a million young trees will be planted on its territory.

In the future, pine growth will be transferred to the lands of the Central Ecological Zone of the Baikal Natural Territory, which will increase the area of restored forest within the framework of the federal project “Forest Preservation” of the national project “Ecology”, the Republican Forestry Agency told reporters.

The greenhouse climate, fertilizers and care of forest plantations will allow foresters to grow pine trees faster. According to arborists, this method provides better survival than growing in open ground.

In 2022, reforestation work in Buryatia will take place on an area of 24.7 thousand hectares — a little less than a year earlier, when similar activities affected 28.3 thousand hectares of forest.

The Republic is one of the regions of the Russian Federation annually suffering from forest fires. The fire season here lasts from April to October. Most often, emergencies occur due to people who do not comply with fire safety rules in nature. In addition, sometimes the taiga burns due to lightning strikes during dry thunderstorms.

Recall that the federal project “Preservation of Forests” has been carried out as part of the national project “Ecology” since October 2018.

The main goal of the “Forest Conservation” project is to ensure the full restoration of forests in areas that are being retired due to forest fires, deforestation and forest diseases. The overall goal of the project is based on two main subtasks: minimizing the loss of forest plantations and ensuring high-quality forest restoration in full.

The main volume of work on reforestation is entrusted to entrepreneurs — tenants of forest lands. Loggers must compensate for the damage caused to nature by planting as many trees as they cut down.

Every year, fires cover an area of up to 10 million hectares, depending on what weather conditions were in a given year.

Russia is the number one country in terms of the number of forests. However, forest resources are not unlimited, as it might seem at first glance. To date, the extensive model of forest resource use, unfortunately, continues to dominate. And do not forget that the value of the forest is not limited to one economy. Forests absorb greenhouse gases and thereby reduce the level of harm caused by man to nature and to himself. Thus, forests reduce the rate of global warming and positively affect the environment.
